About the position

Valiant Space is an in-space propulsion company based in Brisbane, Australia. The company designs, manufactures, and tests non-toxic thrusters, space-rated valves, and full propulsion systems for small satellites. The company is continually growing and is onboarding new staff and increasing its product line.

This is an exciting time to become a part of Valiant Space and our journey! We are currently looking for a Propulsion Test Engineer to join our team for a fast-paced, hands-on position that will give you the chance to test spaceflight hardware!

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design of test setups, commisioning of test equipment, and testing a variety of components and sub-assemblies for Valiant Space's propulsion systems, including for flight hardware and ground equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, operate, and maintain test rigs across Valiant's entire product range, including thrusters, valves, propellant tanks, satellite structures, etc.

  • Lead the testing campaigns of propulsion systems and components throughout all stages of qualification and acceptance before spaceflight

  • Development of testing processes and procedures

  • Support broader engineering efforts in both product design and ground support equipment

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field

  • Ability to work autonomously in a demanding startup atmosphere

  • Proficient with Autodesk Fusion360 or equivalent CAD packages

  • Proficient with test data acquisition software (Labview preferred)

  • Experience with pressure equipment / fittings

  • Excellent communication and time management skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Up to 3-5 years of relevant aerospace experience in testing (ideally of space propulsion systems / components)

  • Experience with numerous scripting and programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Python, Matlab).

  • Experience working with space standards and requirements
